Tuition Remission is a benefit that waives 100% of the tuition costs for eligible USD programs taken by full-time, regular, benefit-based employees, their spouses or registered domestic partners, and their eligible dependent children. Eligible individuals may use the benefit for one undergraduate or one graduate degree.
Employees are eligible to use Tuition Remission on the first day of the Fall or Spring semester that is closest to their one-year anniversary in a full-time, regular (not temporary), benefit-based position.
An eligible employee’s spouse/domestic partner and/or dependent children/children of domestic partners under age 25 can begin using Tuition Remission on the first day of the Fall or Spring semester that is closest to the employee’s two-year anniversary in a full-time, regular (not temporary) benefit-based position.
This benefit is for tuition only – application fees, student body fees, parking fees, housing fees, and any other fees assessed to all students are not covered by Tuition Remission and are the responsibility of the employee and/or eligible dependent. Employees are not assessed the student body fee.
Note: Tuition Remission is not a guaranteed benefit, and eligibility does not guarantee admittance to USD programs. For more information, please review the Tuition Remission Guide or review policy 3.11.2.
USD offers a Tuition Exchange scholarship program to a limited number of eligible dependent children of faculty and staff employees. The program provides undergraduate scholarships to more than 700 participating institutions. You are eligible if you are a full-time employee in a regular (not temporary), benefits-eligible, continuing position and you have completed two years of service. The student must be certified by USD based on the seniority of the employee and meet the admissions and scholarship requirements of the institution to which they are applying.
